On May 1, we launched our #DropGold initiative, an advertorial campaign focused on promoting Bitcoin and Grayscale’s flagship investment product, Grayscale® Bitcoin Trust (OTCQX: GBTC), as alternatives to investing in gold. Our first commercial was truly successful in driving a conversation about dropping gold and allocating to Bitcoin as part of a modern portfolio.
In addition to a compelling and somewhat controversial commercial, we challenged gold in several other ways. Our Founder & CEO Barry Silbert debated “gold bug” Peter Schiff on stage at the investor conference SALT (watch the debate here); we released a first of its kind Bitcoin Investor Study, which examined retail investors’ interests, perceptions, and misconceptions about investing in Bitcoin; and we continue to see individuals engaging in the conversation via #DropGold.
We persist in challenging gold as we unveil our second national spot, which mocks gold as a useless rock in today’s modern world by juxtaposing it with the potential value that exposure to digital currencies may provide. The TV commercial depicts an old-fashioned businessman laboriously mining a gold nugget before cutting to a meeting with his company’s investment committee. It’s clear that his traditional investment endorsement does not impress the Chief Investment Officer as she reacts, “nice rock” and reaffirms her team’s commitment to forward-thinking investments by allocating to Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (OTCQX: GBTC).
As part of the release of our second commercial, you can expect to see additional creative including new reports, additional explainer-style videos on new topics, and other content to help educate investors about the investment-case for Bitcoin and Bitcoin access products like GBTC.
Gold had its place in history but we now live in a digital world, which is why Grayscale provides opportunities for investors to gain exposure to digital currencies. GBTC provides direct exposure to Bitcoin through a traditional investment vehicle. GBTC is the only publicly quoted U.S.-based Bitcoin investment product as well as the largest Bitcoin investment product globally and can be invested in through most brokerages with access to U.S.-listed securities.
